In 2018, the dream of SMH Organic Family Farms became a reality after seeding 6.5 acres of farmland in Arizona's Yuma and Maricopa Counties.
At first, we began producing several varieties of orchard crops. But, after researching the medicinal properties of industrial hemp, we realized the plant's beneficial qualities also aligned with our spiritual, personal, and corporate philosophies.
Multiple studies have shown that cannabigerol (CBG), and cannabidiol (CBD) helps the body maintain harmony by reducing symptoms related to inflammatory bowel disease, glaucoma, bladder dysfunctions, Huntington's disease, bacterial infections, cancer, and appetite loss.
Additionally, research suggests that CBD cannabinoids can stop the breakdown of anandamide, aka the "bliss molecule," which helps lower anxiety. According to Dr. Peter Bongiorno, for Psychology Today, CBD oil relieves symptoms of autism, PTSD, and memory loss. The oils derived from the hemp plant do not contain tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which is what causes the psychoactive effects.
So, in 2019, SMH Organic Family Farms re-imagined itself and proudly became a member of a select group of African American hemp growers in the United States. SMH Organic Family Farms is also one of the few growers licensed to grow and develop industrial hemp and its by-products in Arizona.
